One of Bournemouth’s most historic hotels is opening a new chapter this spring, as the Royal Bath Hotel hosts a new book club and writer workshops, created in association with Author Events.
Set in the heart of Bournemouth and overlooking the Lower Gardens, the Royal Bath Hotel is hosting a programme of literary events designed to bring readers and writers together in a relaxed, welcoming setting. The initiative follows in the footsteps of the hotel’s long-standing literary connections dating back to the infamous visits by Oscar Wilde.
The centrepiece of the programme is Book Club & Bubbles, a new monthly literary social hosted in the hotel’s 1838 Lounge. Ruby Nicol, the hotel’s Events Co-ordinator explained: “Taking place on the second Monday of each month from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, the evening is aimed at local book lovers looking to unwind after work, meet new people, and enjoy thoughtful conversation in a cosy yet refined environment.”
“Guests will be welcomed with a glass of Prosecco, followed by informal networking, and a guided book discussion beginning at 7pm. Each session will feature the previous month’s read, often joined by the author themselves, followed by a preview of upcoming titles on the reading list.”

Alongside the book club, the hotel will also host An Author’s Perspective, a monthly Saturday morning workshop for writers at every stage of their journey. Held from 10.30am to 12.30pm, these relaxed coffee mornings will feature guest speakers from across the publishing world, including authors, editors, publicists and booksellers, offering practical insights into writing and the business of books. This Saturday, Author Events Founder, Alex Stone will deliver the first workshop ideal for novelists and short story writers who want to learn how to craft deep, emotionally driven characters.
