Chartered Building Company, Greendale Construction, have returned to the Arts University College at Bournemouth, where they will be undertaking a number of summer works, including an extension to the College’s fashion block.
Established in 1885 as a specialist institution, the AUCB is now a leading University College, offering high quality specialist education in art, design, media and performance across the creative industries. The extension to the fashion building will improve upon the University College’s already outstanding facilities, and will also include the refurbishment of the lobby and stairways, a new student union office and two staff offices on the first floor. This will make the fashion and costume departments larger.
Having previously completed summer works for the past six years at the AUCB, Greendale are pleased to have been awarded this latest contract, which also includes a number of internal remodelling projects to the plant room, photographic department, model making room and film studio and lecture theatre. The works to the Arts and Events Management building will see Greendale demolish internal walls with the complete removal of all suspended ceilings and redundant fixtures, fittings & services. This in turn will provide a fully open plan area with new folding partitions, finishes, joinery, doors and lighting throughout.
Commenting on Greendale’s latest collaboration with The Arts University College, Director, Chris Kane, said, "We are delighted to have been awarded the Fashion Extension and Summer Works Programme 2012 at AUCB and look forward to contributing to the continuous investment on campus."
Richard Guppy, Head of Facilities at The Arts University College at Bournemouth, remarks that Greendale Construction was successful in being awarded two Capital Projects along with The Summer Works Contract for completion at the end of the summer recess 2012. The first Capital Project will deliver further enhanced facilities in Fashion, Costume and a new Student Union Office, along with re-landscaping to the external courtyard as part of an extension to the existing accommodation. The second Capital Project delivers further accommodation to the Animation facilities by removing redundant plant from the roof space of the North Building and converting into a new studio. The Summer Works 2012 Contract delivers refurbished facilities across Arts and Events Management, Photography, Fashion, Illustration and other areas of teaching and office accommodation.
