The concept of "Shopping Across Bournemouth" first arose in the Chamber's Christmas "Shopping Heaven across Bournemouth Seven" campaign of 2009 when the "tube map" concept was dreamed up. Funded partly by the Chamber, Castlepoint and the Borough's Recessiion Fund the xmas project resulted in 186,000 leaflets being distributed across the town exhorting residents to shop locally. Both "Red and Yellow Buses" also contributed to the scheme's funding in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
In 2010 the scheme expanded to include the first window competition and a "Shopping Across Bournemouth" website was created for the 8 week run up to Christmas. This eventually lead to the Chamber and Recession Fund providing three years of financial support to enable the Traders Associations to get together and develop the current enhanced website that reflects seasonality, Easter, Xmas etc as well as celebrating events such as the Jubilee and Air Festival.
