Chamber Meetings

The Local Government Affairs Meeting (LGA) is by far the most important meeting organised by the Chamber. It is held in the Town Hall every second Monday of the month and it provides the Chamber with its unique position of influence within the Borough.

The LGA is attended by Councillors, the Borough Chief Executive, Heads of Town Hall Departments and directorates such as Planning, Economic Regeneration and Tourism plus the Town Centre and BID Managers.

Chamber members are represented by either Branches / Trade Associations (representing the geographical areas of the Town) or by Specialism e.g. Green Knowledge Network, Arts In Business and in addition by members of the Executive Committee.

The meeting is also attended by the Daily Echo, both Bus Companies, and by Bournemouth Junior Chamber and Dorset Junior Chamber representatives. Taxi Owners and Funeral Directors have been members of the Chamber since its inception in 1916 and attend in their own right.

All the members in their Branches, Trade Associations or Specialist Networks meet each other and discuss their issues, with each having a Representative who brings their concerns and issues to the LGA. Those not belonging to such organisations raise their issues with members of the Chamber Executive at the many networking events held during the month or by phone or e-mail.

In addition many members of other Town Chambers and Councils have attended the LGA to observe how this successful and informative forum can be duplicated in their towns.
